Coach rhemman pov for the ask game ?👉👈
I gotcha!
Here's another segment from Three, yet again featuring Rhemann and his wife Amber. I didn't realize I mentioned her so much until now lol. Again, this is not the happiest subject matter, but if I actually make this it's own one-shot it won't all be sad! (it's just that whenever I don't include something in a larger body of work it's usually bc it's too sad/dark/etc...)
~
The subject line read "This needs to exist but I cannot have it anymore."
Anonymous. Yet somehow it hadn’t gone to spam.
“What the hell?” Amber murmured, peering over his shoulder.
Rhemann got up, tossing his laptop onto the seat behind him. His first text went to Jeremy.
“Find Jean. Stick by him. No phones.”
Next he dialed PR. Rhemann's story wasn't solid yet, but he sold it was well as he could. The video was dark, it was old and it was not Jean in the video. He made them repeat it back to him. No matter what they did to cover the impending scandal, it was not Jean in the video. Thankfully, they hadn’t seen anything yet on social media.
As Rhemann went to call Jackie, Jeremy messaged him back.
“coach we r kinda freaking out with no context."
“might be nothing. don’t worry about it,” he replied quickly.
“Hey James,” Jackie picked up after one ring, “What’s up?"
“There’s a video,” Rhemann stopped himself. He took a breath. “People are going to say it’s Jean. It's not.”
“What?” Jackie said, right as Amber mouthed the same thing. Rhemann held up a hand.
“There’s a video. It looks like it’s from The Nest. If it gets out, it is not Jean. Do you hear me?”
“Yes,” Jackie said.
“Call Jimenez and White. I'm trying to keep the kids out of it incase we can keep it under wraps. I want the least amount of people knowing about this as possible."
“On it.”
He hung up the phone and lowered to his side. Amber was watching him, eyes wide. Rhemann forced himself to look at her and confront the inevitable.
“It’s him,” he said. But it couldn't be so he wouldn't let it.
~
#COACH RHEMANN TO THE RESCUE#a video gets leaked from The Nest but Jean and everyone else never find out bc (for lack of a better term) Rhemann kills it in the cradle#coach james rhemann#jean moreau#the sunshine court#aftg

TSC fanfic idea that I may actually end up writing cause I made myself cry thinking about it.
Coach Rhemann decides to kill two birds with one stone. He wants Jean to learn how to play without injuring his opponents (and teammates during practice), and he wants Jean to feel more comfortable around the coaches and feel secure in the fact that they won't hurt him.
Rhemann decides to suit up and join his team during their practices as the primary person Jean will need to check.
Jean would never hit a coach, therefore increasing the likelihood that he'll be more aware of his technique and try to keep it clean, and Rhemann will be right with him to instantly correct any problems. And through these practices, Jean will get to see that Rhemann truly will not hurt him, even if Jean messes up on the court. Because the only way for Jean to begin trusting the coaches is by continued exposure to them simply being kind to him.
Two birds, one stone.

Honestly, the thing I'm gonna miss most in TSC is Wymack's attitude and cutting but loving remarks. Coach Rhemann, good luck filling those shoes.

all of these Wymack thoughts are making me wonder about James Rhemann. Like, obviously we KNOW he’s an important authority figure for Jean and we know he’s a nice guy, but I want to know his personality the way we know Wymack’s. Not just his temperament, but stuff like, what’s his family situation? Why does he care about his kids so much and what led to that? When did he learn Exy? Is he a usc alum? What are his thoughts about his kids aside from Jean? James Rhemann who are you

well if you're still taking character asks too, how about James Rhemann?
How I feel about this character
honestly? carried the series. vouched for Wymack EVERY TIME something was going on with the foxes WITHOUT QUESTION. took on Jean knowing the baggage he was bringing with him (to some degree at least). Coach of the kindest most genuine most sportsmanlike team in the collegiate league? KING. he deserves everything good in the world
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Wymack. hearing out the stuart/james ship rn
My non-romantic OTP for this character
i don't knowwww. ask me again in two books and maybe rhemann x lisinski will be the hottest ship in town
My unpopular opinion about this character
okay. LOWKEY. i don't think he trusts Jean. at least nowhere near in the same way Wymack trusts his foxes. especially after what happened with Grayson and his insistence on not calling the cops, but also with everything he's seen in Jean since he signed him. I feel like David understands why the foxes might not want the cops to get involved in things but other people mightn't understand it as well and Jean is standing in front of him bleeding and beat up as fuck SO sure that he doesn't want the cops to be called. He plays dirty. He has bad tactics so ingrained in him that he's struggling to unlearn them. I think he has a lot of loooong phone calls with David about him because he's so frustrated with trying to understand what his deal is
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Again I would LOVE to see a phone call between him and David about Jean. I want David to have to explain to him in the simplest least-information-heavy way possible what he has to do with Jean or how he can possibly begin to understand him

Rhemann calling Wymack after he drops Jean+Co off at the end of TSC
Wymack: hey James, what’s up? Is Jean ok?
Rhemann: that’s the issue, David, see he always says he’s “okay”
Wymack: ahh I see, the “I’m fine song and dance routine”
Rhemann: the what?
Wymack: We have a name for it at the foxhole court, Jean sounds like a classic case
Rhemann: oh well what do you do about it? I can clearly tell he isn’t fine!
Wymack: ah well I’m afraid you are going to have to threaten him with less court time for any better results.
Rhemann: What?! No I’m not threatening one of my players
Wymack: it’s the only thing that worked with Neil. Though I suppose it doesn’t have to come from a coach just someone they look up to.
Rhemann: Well I don’t want to put this on Jeremy, he’s been trying enough, and they seem to be getting on pretty well
Wymack: No not Jeremy, he’s a great kid but I don’t think he’d hold his ground in that way. You know what, I’ll get Kevin to give Jean a call.
Rhemann: Kevin? Are you sure, David?
Wymack: Yes, I’m can’t guarantee that it will put an end to the “i’m fine song and dance routine” but it will at least make Jean think for a second before saying “I’m okay”
Rhemann: Thank’s so much David, I don’t know how many more “accidents happen in scrimmages” I can hear. Have a good night.
Wymack: happy to help, call anytime. I don’t have all the answers but I do have experience. have a good evening, James.

The Raven King - Chapter Thirteen
Day: Tuesday, November 14th Time: 10:10 AM EST
"Let's talk about the season," Wymack said, because it was his job to keep them moving no matter what tragedy tried to set them back. "I spent most of yesterday talking to the Class I coaches about our situation, starting with Coach Rhemann." Neil dimly recognized the name, but he was too tired to place it. "I've got a conference call with the ERC this afternoon to determine our status," Wymack said. "I don't know which way they're going to swing. Andrew's still enrolled as a student at Palmetto State. Easthaven and the registrar's office agreed this morning to let him finish the semester long- distance. That means he's still contracted with us, so we're within regs. This is a bit more drastic than having him benched with an injury, though. An injury is treatable and calculable. Andrew's current treatment isn't that black-and-white. But," Wymack continued, "Rhemann has taken ourside. He offered to speak on our behalf if need be, and he's helped reach out to the others." Neil finally recognized the name. James Rhemann was the head coach for the USC Trojans, one of the Big Three in NCAA Exy. USC didn't have Edgar Allan's flawless record, but the Trojans were known for their sportsmanship. They'd won the Day Spirit Award seven years straight and had yet to receive a single red-card: an impossible feat considering their long history and their ranking. It made sense Wymack would turn to them for help first. "As of this morning, the vote across the Class I teams is almost unanimous," Wymack said. "They want us to finish the season." "They—what?" Dan almost choked on it. "Why? They've never supported us before." "Does it matter?" Matt asked. "If they'll fight the ERC for us, I'll take it." "It's not a guarantee," Wymack said, holding up a hand to calm them. "The ERC has to listen, but they don't have to accept. I just wanted you to know there's still a chance for us. That means we have to bring it today like the news is already good, get me? So change out and get down to the court. I want one lap for every time you've ever said the NCAA's never had your back." "Oh, Jesus," Nicky said. "We'll be running all day." "Better get started, then," Wymack said. "Move out, maggots."

Please I’m on my knees begging you to write more Rheamann whether it’s the posts on here or longer pieces on ao3. I love his pov on things so much and you write it so well!!!
thank you so much :) any feedback I get on my writing means the WORLD to me! I'm always trying to write Rhemann's POV because it's a fresh perspective and I don't want my story to get stagnant, but sometimes it just doesn't make it to the final cut. Hearing people say they actually want more Rhemann is so amazing because Three is literally ALL Rhemann POV (+ Nest flashbacks).
I'll keep adding to it organically, but I'll work on polishing it up too, so it can be it's own work!

TSC spoilers
--------------
While Rhemann was cleaning up Jean's wounds after Grayson, you know he had a moment where he looked at Jean's eyes and saw the thousand-yard stare and realized Jean had been through this and much worse throughout his life.
On top of that, Lucas's attempted questions for Jean make it very clear that at least one person forced themselves on Jean while he was at Evermore. And Rhemann will know that Jean was only 16 when he joined the line, so it won't be hard for him to come to the same conclusion Jeremy did, though hopefully he'll be able to determine that Jean didn't ask for it without Jean having to say that.
What I hope is that someone learns about the fact that Tetsuji Moriyama brought a seemingly random child from France and had that 14 year old child living in Evermore.
Because to anyone normal, like the Trojans, that would set off every alarm possible that Jean may have been trafficked. And if they begin to follow that suspicion, what they'll find will only add to it. His name was changed, he was isolated, no one protected him when he was assaulted, he is terrified of going to the police, he wasn't allowed to speak to the public even though the other two star players were always doing interviews...
*Obviously, Riko and Kevin also lived in Evermore, but that wasn't random. To an outsider, it makes sense because Riko is Tetsuji's nephew, and Kevin is the child of Kayleigh - Tetsuji's partner and one of the creators of Exy. Jean has no such connections.
#tsc spoilers#I just really want the Moriyama's to get buried#tsc#the sunshine court#jean moreau#james rhemann#coach rhemann#lucas johnson

ik it’s not, like, an OC OC, but i loved your post about Wade Vesper and i’ve seen you mention Rhemann quite a lot on your blog so… James Rhemann à la Adler s’il vous plaît? 🙏💛
IT WILL BE MY PLEASURE ANON! BLESS U! BLESS UUUUU!!!!! (official unofficial Trojans ocs list here)
James Rhemann (42) Head Coach of the USC Trojans
I am so unbelievably not normal about this man. and yeah, i went there. you can't pick out Lee Pace to play the man and not give him the most dramatic homosexual backstory. (before him Rhemann's face was just Ron Swanson. so rejoice. or wtv.)
As previously discussed on Wade Vesper's character sheet, the two men had a very painful almost-kind-of-affair while Wade was an athlete on Rhemann's Exy team in some college, and also when they both moved to SoCal so Rhemann could take the offer of assistant coach to the Trojans, and Wade managed to get accepted into USC and made the team as well.
I think even though Rhemann was kinda part of the OG Exy gang (Kayleigh, Tetsuji, Wymack), he was always very wary of Tetsuji, and lowkey scared of Kayleigh, and considering the times' rampant homophobia, and pursuing one of his athletes, much younger, Rhemann just couldn't do it. He totally broke Wade's heart, and his own, by refusing to admit they had a good thing going on, that hey even had a 'this'. By the time tragedy struck Wade, it was too late for Rhemann to reach for him and be his source of support and comfort. Wade locked himself away and out of reach, and Rhemann completely lost him, for years.
Rhemann climbed the ladder to the top until he was head coach of the Trojans, but he never did have another lover, not even something casual, not even something straight and fake. He never forgave himself. It's a failure that comes up to fight for the top spot along with warning Kayleigh too late about Tetsuji.
But his kids (they're adults, James) fill almost all the void, as does his career and his fight for the Champions title. So of course, two things come to haunt him, bite him the ass, and upend his carefully taped up world. 1) Wade's back in town, with a kid (again, an adult, James) and a whole lot of ghosts, and 2) his right hand man, Anderson Atwell, is falling for one of their players, Levi, and it's so much like he and Wade were back then, it hurts.
And what does he do? He tries to break Anderson and Levi apart, tries to tell them how bad and ugly it'll get, how it is not a viable relationship, just an illusion, and pipe dream. He almost loses Levi. Wade is so mad at him for not learning from his mistakes and trying to hurt others with his unlearned lessons. Fortunately, Anderson comes to terms with things better than Rhemann, and he and Levi maturely pursue each other, and they're okay.
Then comes the revelation that Wade's kid, Adèle, is related to his own Jean Moreau, and it's like catching a grenade all over again. There's no time for regrets and mistakes anymore, Rhemann's got to make choice after choice and hope for the best, hope he doesn't lose Jean, hope Adèle stays safe (and alive), hope Wade stays, hope he's enough of a reason to stay.
xxx
On another note, I imagine younger Rhemann very much alike to Ennis del Mar from Brokeback Mountain, and present Rhemann more like old Jamie Taylor from The Haunting of Bly Manor. He did mature a lot despite the exception of his history with Wade. He's more mellow, more loose, but in a bittersweet, tired way. Like all he ever allows himself to hope for is the best for his kids.
The mustache is very important. He's kept it for a record of 10 years, and he's not planning on shaving it off anytime soon. Only Wade could persuade him maybe, but Wade is a sucker for it, unfortunately.
He is very educated on queer culture and history, closeted fool that he is, because even if he has the hardest time letting go of the traumatizing homophobia of his youth, he'll be damned if his kids aren't their truest selves and live their lives out and loud. Living in Vegas has helped and still does. He did do drag for one night only, partying it out on the town with a bunch of queer and queen friends that found him drinking his sorrows in a gay bar he did not realize was a gay bar. He has defended his team and players many times against other homophobic schools and players, even against the ERC and USC's direction. He always won. He'll always fight. He has an endless stock of rainbow tape for Exy sticks.
Most satisfying Pinterest board to look through:
Mustache mustache man. Sexy sexy man.
Also leaving this here for the #aftg smau . In case that interests you.
What else? His best friend is one of the team's therapist (who is [redacted] for now until I land on a name).
I put him at 6'5" (actual Lee Pace height). He can look Jean Moreau eye to eye. He can rest his elbow in Jeremy Knox's head. He can carry a man.
I think that's it for now?

what makes Kevin Day/James Rhemann truly work? i am. fascinated. need legit excuses to foam at the mouth for them.
in canon: absolutely nothing at all
in this fic specifically: rhemann has been trying to convince the usc board to fund the trojans' exy team as much as it funds the football team for about as long as he's been a coach at usc, and one of the first thing kevins offers upon visiting is to help him achieve that goal. kevin specifically offers to help by talking to the board, which rhemann finds amusing if a little preposterous because he knew kayleigh once and it sounds like the kind of nonsensical proposal she'd make based on her name alone. he only really takes kevin's word for it once coach wymack vouches that indeed kevin managed to convince the entire psu board to sign on neil on the sole promise that kevin would make him court, which is truly nothing but at this point in his career it might be the last hope he has. rhemann and kevin (and jeremy) spend a lot of time together drafting a proposal to the university and going over the trojans' finances, which puts them at close contact, sometimes well into the night, alone, with kevin day in glasses,
more so i think it's probably to me the dynamic of. first of all hope. rhemann is closer to retiring than he cares to admit and he'd lost all hope of seeing the trojans achieve their full potential during his career, and kevin acts both as a balm to that and a last resort that Feels like what rhemann was missing this entire time. on a more intimate level i made rhemann and kayleigh friends once; he was never in love with her but he spent a non negligible amount of time living in her shadows as a fellow defenseman, and the age difference aside kevin makes him feel just as uncertain about the future as kayleigh had, once, and the similarities astound him. there's also a little bit of it being years since rhemann has last actually played exy: i made him an ex-goalie who retired peacefully and gracefully to being a coach! his career wasn't much to look at so he's very surprised once kevin actually remembers that rhemann played and for what team, remembers his stats and his successes and failures and thinks that if rhemann had stayed on track and worked harder he might have been able to make it as a player. i Really wanted to have a scene where kevin convinces c rhemann to play with him at least for a little bit even though it's obvious that on a shootout against the best striker in the league kevin is wiping the floor with him, and i think that scene is a turning point for both of them because it establishes a little bit of trust and a little bit of wonder and hopefully a lot of unresolved sexual tension
#oof! got long!!!! sorry#this is of course all pulled straight out of my ass and not true to canon#i hope its comprehensive enough though! a bit more sentimental than im used to but thats not a bad thing#i dont think k/r get Together together in this fic or even date#i have a scene planned where they talk about it and he's like i dont date i am 47 years old#but i think there is something there! a little fling has never hurt anyone. & no one needs to know#jean would kill himself if he knew but jean doesnt need to know#actually i fear that he does find out#but thats a story for another time#asks#kevin/rhemann

perhaps a snippet from got lost along the way? I really enjoyed We Carry Our Own Weight
the first two chapters are up if you haven't gotten the chance to read them yet!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/58141432/chapters/148032643
aaand snippet time (surprise — it's prose!):
"Kid,” Wymack says when they’re finally seated. He sounds gruff and looks uncomfortable, and Jean thinks to himself, That makes two of us. He does not particularly desire to hear whatever Kevin’s father has to say to him. “I’ve known James Rhemann, the head coach at USC, for two and a half decades. He’s a good man and will treat you fairly.”
Jean wants to say he has never met anyone to treat him fairly, but — that isn’t true, he supposes. Wymack and Abby have been nothing but bafflingly kind since Renee kidnapped him from the Nest. He’s not positive he believes that anyone who holds that much power over an entire team’s lineup will not abuse it, but he nods anyway. “Jeremy has spoken highly of him.”
Wymack’s lips twitch at the mention of USC. Jean isn’t sure why. “Of course he has."
